Vigil at Alito’s house

Justice Alito’s draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade is beyond alarming. It would not only allow states to outlaw abortion (which is already de facto unavailable to many who need it, particularly people from marginalized communities) but could also be used to allow states to outlaw contraception, same-sex marriage, protections for LGBTQ folks, and even interracial marriage.

The evening of Monday, May 9, we will hold a vigil for all these rights that Alito is threatening to take away. Because it’s been impossible to reach him at the Supreme Court (especially now with the enormous fences), we will do it at his home. At 7:30 pm we will gather at a nearby location and walk together to his house. At the foot of his driveway, on the public street, we will light candles and speakers will share their testimony. We will hold a moment of silence for the rights we know are ours, then walk back together to the meeting location.

Unfortunately the area around Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is not metro-accessible (the closest metro station is Huntington) so we suggest carpooling with friends. We will have marshals, deescalators, legal observers, and medics on hand.

Let’s show up in numbers. Sign up below to be sent the meeting location and other details. We will not share your information with other individuals or groups.
