As the wildfires burn in California, we have to deal with the fact that the climate crisis isn’t a problem for the future -- it’s already begun. And as the corporations and politicians that created the climate crisis continue to delay and deny, over 200,000+ people have had to evacuate their homes. But as this crisis grows, so does our movement.
The #ShutDownDC actions of Sept. 23 and 27 were a huge success, and we will continue to bring climate disruption to the nation’s capital over and over again, until decision-makers feel the urgency that those affected by the wildfires are feeling right now. In the next two weeks there are a bunch of chances to get involved, build our skills, and take action!
Get plugged in:
On Thursday, November 7th, at 6:30pm at St. Stephens Church (1525 Newton Ave. NW--NOTE THE UPDATED LOCATION) join #ShutDownDC for our general meeting. We’ll dive into plans for the December 6th climate strike, sharing updates on how to get involved in upcoming trainings and events and continuing to look ahead to massive mobilizations this spring.
Build our skills:
On Sunday, November 10th from 10am to 4pm join us for “Shutting Things Down to Open Things Up--Organizing Creative Actions for Climate Justice,” a day long training on organizing and participating in non-violent direct actions. This workshop is open to anyone committed to the fight for climate justice. Click here for more details and to RSVP!

Save the date, spread the word, and make sure to join our email list and sign up for text message updates by texting StrikeDC to 88202.
